Cleaner, now showing on Sky Cinema, is a high-stakes thriller set high above the London skyline. CUBE Studio was proud to deliver the on-set virtual production that gave the film its dramatic, real-world look from skyline reflections to complex skyscraper interiors.
Over a six-week shoot, CUBE Studio provided custom virtual production for Cleaner, including a movable LED screen designed to track around the set. This allowed the team to create realistic skyline backdrops and reflections, dynamically adjusted on a shot-by-shot basis.
The background plates were captured from One Canada Square, the UK’s third-tallest building, using a high-resolution camera. These 2D plates were stitched and processed to form a scalable digital backdrop that could be adjusted and scaled depending on what floor we were shooting from and any adjustments needed on the fly.
CUBE Studio co-founder James Hakesley acted as the Virtual Production Supervisor, working directly with the DOP, Gaffer, and Production Designer to ensure lighting, reflections, and on-screen visuals were fully integrated into the physical set.
The success of Cleaner highlights what’s possible when virtual production is baked into the process from day one. By combining physical set design with dynamic, in-camera digital environments, the film creates a tension-filled world that feels completely real.
